Do luxury vinyl flooring and humidity mix?

Do luxury vinyl flooring and humidity mix?

Luxury vinyl flooring and humidity can co-exist quite peacefully. All it takes is a tiny bit of extra TLC from you!

The 411 on humidity

Although luxury vinyl flooring is completely waterproof, it has microscopic air holes. When the air gets humid, it expands.

Even if it comes from a nearby warehouse, it still needs to be aligned with the moisture levels in your home. The temperature can be much different in a warehouse!

And this is why we recommend acclimation

This is a simple yet necessary pre-installation procedure. Have the product delivered a few days early. Then lay the luxury vinyl tile or vinyl plank flooring side by side on the floor in the room in which they are to be installed.

Usually, 48 hours is recommended, but please double-check with the flooring expert. Every manufacturer is different.

Keep the temperature consistent at 65-80 degrees F. Humidity levels should be no more than 55%.

Necessary, especially for floating floors

This installation makes pieces click, mat, and hover over the subfloor without adhesive.

Since the surface isn’t affixed to the subfloor, the slightest movement can throw the LVT or LVP flooring off balance. We won't take that chance with your floor. Neither should you–protect your investment!
